Leonardo said: "The first object of the painter is to make a flat plane appear as a body in relief and projecting from that plane."
This 3D anaglyph is a small step in that direction.
If computers had been available five centuries ago, the great man would surely have created a 3D version of Miss Mona himself. It's surprising he didn't invent computers, just in passing, in an odd free moment between painting and inventing everything else.
There are several 3D anaglyph conversions of Mona floating about on the Net. This seems to be the only one where the lady projects partly forward from the picture plane, following Leonardo's suggestion. It's possible to do this because the bottom of the picture is dark and undefined. And if one 3D Mona isn't enough for you, try the seamless 3D tiled wallpaper version in the Seamless Mona section.

To see this 3D picture properly you'll need a pair of red-blue (cyan) anaglyph glasses. If a pair isn't available in a distant corner of your loft, two pieces of clear coloured plastic or cellophane will do, or a hunt about on the Net should produce a source of glasses.
